Rebranding

Sligo Golf Academy was a full rebrand including an interior refurbishment to develop an animal farm, enhance its activity offerings and create a cosy coffee shop in line with an ethos and a brand respectful to its location underneath Knocknarea; the mythical burial place of Ireland's most profilic High Queen.

Anam J designed and developed a brand called Queen Medb's which involved researching the Queen of Connaught, developing a font, a logo, a colour palette and a style to evoke a sense of nature, earthiness and royalty.

Interior

The cafe space and animal farm was styled in a manner that linked the earthy Celtic wild warrior queen's presence outdoors and brought her indoors. Using a combination of foliage, wood and earthy design, the warm, rustic cafe was created. Combining hand-painted old-Irish script on the walls, murals representing the surrounds by artist Ciaran Dunlevy, bespoke wooden coffee tables by Sea Creations, a weave frame with a celtic spiral from The Wickerman, it culminated in a space that would entice all ages to gather underneath the mountain on the Wild Atlantic Way. Successfully, resulting in Wild Atlantic Food taking up residency there this year offering the finest of earthy, organic and homemade, delicious and heart-felt food.

Logo & Photography

Enlisting the creative genius of Alterisco graphics and Damien J Kennedy Photography, the warrior queen has a powerful graphic and photographic presence.

It is possible to visualise her. Legend has it she hunted here often and was 'a warrioress untamed' and her 'will was the measure of the world' and 'beauteous save when wrath ov'r flamed taht beauty'.

The logo is both masculine; depicted on a shield and feminine; on her mountain. It comes in two variations to reflect the warrior and the goddess in her. For the photoshoot, locations around the foot of the wild woman's supposed burial place were chosen. Costume, weapons and jewelery were used that is cohesive with the Golden age; thus the photography solidifies the brand with authenticity, historic accuracy and reinforces the myth and presence of Queen Medb of Connaught.
